Lisa McAteer of Tucson, born December 4, 1963, passed away on November 5, 2010. Lisa was an educator in the Indian Oasis School District in Sells. Anyone who was fortunate enough to have known Lisa, knows she was an amazing and positive person. She constantly provided strength for co-workers, friends, students, and her family. Her dry sense of humor would bring others to tears. Her reputation for being a Starbucks connoisseur was what tall tales are made of. She enjoyed immensely the times she spent with her friends, especially at their American Idol parties - and their friendly wagers. Most importantly, Lisa was a committed, inspired, and dynamic educator who worked tirelessly to make her students believe in their successes and potentials. The students and community of the Indian Oasis School District were her children, and she loved them dearly. She handled all decisions calmly and methodically with integrity. Besides the Tohono O'odham community, Lisa is survived by her parents, Winifred McAteer and Ina and Denis McAteer; her sisters, Tracy Barry, Alison Romero (Richard), Kim Palermo (John) and brother, Brett McAteer; stepbrother, Rob and stepsister, Michele. Auntie Lisa also will be greatly missed by her nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her two aunts, Lucille and Cathy. A Memorial in Lisa's honor will be held at the Fine Arts Center in Sells/Topawa on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. Mass will be on Friday, November 12, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 1300 N. Greasewood Rd., Tucson, 85745. Contributions in Lisa's name may be made to the Lupus Foundation of America Inc., Southern Arizona, 4602 E. Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ, 85714. Arrangements entrusted ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel (742-7901).
